E-Mail this report to a friend

Three security personnel including two captains were among 10 people killed while security forces arrested 11 suspected militants in Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours.

A report from Baramulla said that an encounter took place between militants and security forces at Dadersun in the frontier district of Kupwara this evening during a search operation.

Official sources said two militants, a captain and a civilian were killed. Further details were awaited.

Security forces arrested eleven suspected militants and recovered some arms and ammunition in the valley during the period.

Official sources said an army captain was killed and three soldiers were wounded critically when a vehicle in which they were travelling was blown-up by militants on Bagpora-Padgampora near Awantipora, about 30 km from here in south Kashmir yesterday afternoon.

Sources said the area has been cordoned off and a massive hunt has been launched to nab militants responsible for the blast.

Two mine blasts took place at Nepora Qazigund in south Kashmir early yesterday morning when a security force patrol was passing the area. The blasts followed firing by militants. However, no one was injured, he said and added militants managed to escape after forces retaliated.

Panic gripped the busy business centre Hari Singh High Street here yesterday morning around 1130 hours when militants fired upon security forces. Security forces also retaliated but none was wounded, an official spokesman said.

Border Security Force men cordoned off about a dozen localities in Gurubazar area this morning and conducted house-to-house searches. All male members of these localities were also paraded before informers during which nine suspected persons were taken into custody for questioning.
