'Kar sevaks' did not hear
my appeals: Bharti

Union Minister of State for Sports Uma Bharti, who deposed before Justice Liberhan, the one-man commission inquiring into the demolition of the disputed structure on December 6, 1992, said that she does not remember anything what happened eight years ago.

"I was appealing to the crowd to come down from the disputed structure. My voice was not reaching them. I was standing on a high wall and waving my dupata and telling the crowd to come down. But there was so much noise that no one could hear me," Bharti told Justice Liberhan.

She continued, by stating that when some kar sevaks who could hear her request to come down came and asked me why she was requesting them to come down, she replied; "I am Uma Bharti."

She claimed that they then said, ''Uma Bharti! Who Uma Bharti! We don't know any Uma Bharti. You go to hell."

''However, I pacified them and then started reading Hanuman Chalisa and told them to repeat after me," she added.

"There was total chaos and I cannot recollect much of what happened," she said.

Justice Liberhan, however, said, ''When you can talk of Babar, which is nearly 500 year old, how can you not remember what happened eight years ago?

Bharti's deposition will continue.
