Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

Accused in the betting scam Kishen Kumar, who admitted himself to hospital after the scandal broke, has been declared fit for interrogation.

A team for four doctors, led by Dr Mahesh Sharma, today examined Kishen Kumar and announced him fit.

"We examined Kishen Kumar and his condition is consistently improving," Dr Sharma pointed out. He said Kishen had given his consent to address a press conference at 1600 hours IST provided everything is all right.

Dr Sharma said Kishen's blood pressure was slightly high at 140/100 (normal is 80/120). "Otherwise he is cheerful and his pain has decreased," the doctor declared.

Sharma said Kishen Kumar was being taken to the cardiac lab for a treadmill test and a colour-Doppler echo cardiogram. His report will be ready in an hour, the doctor added.
