Puttur, Udipi see minor violence

E-Mail this report to a friend

Minor stone-throwing incidents and attacks on passing vehicles were reported in Puttur and Udupi in Dakshina Kannada district Monday night and Tuesday morning, even as the situation in the violence-hit Suratkal and Mangalore remained peaceful.

Director General of Police T Sreenivasalu camping in the district said that additional police forces have been rushed to Puttur and Udupi. The situation was now 'fully under control'.

One person was injured in the incidents.

Sreenivasalu appealed to the people not to heed rumours. Ever since the trouble broke out in Suratkal, the police had effectively controlled the situation. In any case, the DGP said, the incidents in Suratkal had been minor in nature.

He said local community leaders, MLAs, MPs and other people's representatives had co-operated well with the police and were striving to restore harmony by conducting peace marches in the affected areas.
