E-Mail this report to a friend

A villager was injured when Pakistani troops resorted to 'unprovoked firing' on Indian positions in north Kashmir's Nowgam sector Sunday evening. And a militant was killed and another surrendered in the valley in the past 24 hours.

Sources said the injured villager has been identified as Mumtaz Khan. Indian troops also retaliated and the exchange continued for about three hours. Casualties on the Pakistan side are not known.

An official spokesman said security forces killed a militant at Surankote. Another surrendered and was handed over two grenades at Anantnag Sunday evening.

He said militants lobbed a hand grenade on a security force picket at Sher Bagh in Anantnag. However, it missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside, injuring a woman, Rifat Anees.
