Annual Convention Focuses On 21st Century Tech And Lifestyle For Women, Children And Retirees

Technology Challenges in the 21st Century is the theme for the 16th annual convention of The American Society of Engineers of Indian Origin.

The two-day event focuses on a wide range of topics including new products, marketing and investment strategies, overcoming cultural reservations, youth and blending, career juggling for women, and retirement years.

The convention is being held September 4 and 5, at Buffalo/Niagara Marriott, 1340 Millersport Highway, Amherst.

The program stars with golf outing, 11 am, a tour to Niagara Falls by prior arrangement; convention registration will take place between 1 pm and 6 pm.

An ice-breaker event hosted by Western New York, Buffalo Chapter, starts at 6 pm.

September 5: Key note address at 8.30 am, followed by the discussion role of Indian engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs in society, chaired by Manohar Singh. There will be a review of involvement in policy making, community supported activities, and foundations.

9.45 am to 10.30 am: Entrepreneurship, key to success, with Dhirendra Saxena as the session chair. Focus on financial and legal issues.

11 to noon: Marketing technical services, with Arun Jain as the session chair. Focus on barriers in marketing (cultural, other), marketing approaches and techniques, web-based marketing, successful case studies, and e-commerce.

Noon to 1.30 pm: Luncheon speech: Technology Challenges in the 21st Century.

1.30 pm to 3 pm: Information technologies, chaired by Ramalingam Sridhar, with focus on emerging trends, multimedia applications, and technologies of the next millennium.

3 pm to 4 pm: Exciting/smart tools and products, chaired by Paramjit Singh, with demonstration of tools and products.

For the older generation, the Next millennium and the golden years will also be discussed. Focus will be on life after retirement and health issues.

4 pm to 5 pm: Prashanti Reddy will be the chairperson for the session on emerging role of professional women. Topics include women in technology, juggling priorities, and conflicting goals

The session on the young generation is led by Akshay Singh and will discuss career paths, cultural values and about the art of blending.

The banquet will take place between 6.30 pm and 8.30 pm along with the keynote speech, followed by awards, recognition and the ASEI National Awards.

9 pm to midnight: Entertainment.

ASEI is an international non-profit professional organization of engineers, students and professionals primarily engaged in the pursuit of the enhancement of technical, professional, educational, and economic benefits to its members, pave the way for global networking and exchange of knowledge with other countries.

Any architect, engineer or professional in the allied field of Indian origin of good professional standing is eligible to become a member of the society.

The organization of the Society has two levels: 1. National Level and 2. chapters. Currently ASEI has 11 chapters across the USA and India including a student chapter and links with various professionals, institutions and business organizations in promoting technical and business issues of interest to our members. Plans to open new chapters are underway in Boston, Cleveland and the University of Pennsylvania in the US, and Bangalore, Bombay and Pune in India.

ASEI also publishes a bi-monthly newsletter, and holds an annual convention. At the annual convention, ASEI presents awards for engineering expertise, entrepreneurship, academic achievement and community service, and grants a student scholarship towards studies in engineering or an allied technical discipline. Profiles of members providing names, addresses, employment information and areas of expertise is available to ASEI members.
