Congress strongman Jitendra Prasada's constituency once upon a time. Prasada was the MP from here in 1971, lost the 1977 election, won it back in 1980 and retained the seat in 1984, before losing it to the Janata Dal's Satya Pal Singh Yadav in 1989. Yadav retained the seat in 1991 for the JD. In 1996, which he fought on the SP ticket, he was defeated by the Congress's Ram Murthi Singh by 7,000 votes. Chinmayanand of the BJP came third, winning 130,279 votes.
