Interestingly, in the 1952 election, the constituency plumbed for the Peasants and Workers Party. In the next four elections the PWP was runner-up behind the Congress, before winning in 1977. In 1980 and 1984 it slipped back to second place. In 1989, an Independent was elected from here, D A Anandrao who won the next round as a Sena candidate. In 1996, he lost as the Congress candidate, losing to the Sena's Suresh Jadhav by 115,000 votes.
