Local Janata Party chief P G R Sindhia was trounced in 1984. In the 1991 election, it was the BJP that was in second place, not the JD. But the voter's choice was in favour of the Janata Dal's H D Kumaraswamy in the first time that the seat did not vote for the Congress. Significantly, the BJP won 23.60 % of the vote.
