Assam to have 56 observersA total of 17,606 polling stations will be set up for Assam's 1,42,68,896 voters in 14 Lok Sabha constituencies. The Election Commission has appointed 56 observers, four in each constituency, to oversee the poll process wherein 101 candidates, the lowest since 1980, are contesting. Guwahati tops the list with the highest number of voters and polling stations. It has a 1,350,052 electorate for whom there are 1,563 booths. The Autonomous District (scheduled tribes), the biggest constituency in Assam, has the lowest number of voters (535,149), and also the lowest number (741) polling booths. UNI |
