Khurana blasts RJD, SP for obstructing Vananchal bill

E-Mail this report to a friend

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Madan Lal Khurana criticised the members of Parliament belonging to the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Samajwadi Party for the events in the Lok Sabha today.

Khurana said the parties had been told yesterday that the Cabinet would consider the Bihar State Reorganisation Bill, 1998, for the creation of Vananchal at an informal meeting today.

But the RJD and SP insisted at a meeting with Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani this afternoon that they had been told the government would introduce the bill in the next session of Parliament.

In the informal Cabinet meeting, for which MPs from the Vananchal region were also invited, it was unanimously decided to introduce the bill today itself.

It was felt that not introducing the bill today, the last day of the winter session of Parliament, would have serious consequences. In any case, the bill could be discussed when it goes to the standing committee of Parliament.

The minister said members had a right to object when any bill is introduced, but it is wrong to physically obstruct proceedings. This will send wrong signals to the people, he warned.
