It's that Chris Martin's fault. The lead singer of hugely popular British band Coldplay -- and husband of Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow -- accepted two Brit Awards on Wednesday night, then promptly ruined the moment by hinting at a possible split.
"This means so much to us, especially now," the 28-year old singer said to the crowd, "It's going to be a few years before you see us again." He then added, "People are fed up with us - and so are we. You won't see us at one of these for many, many years." It was read as a hint that the band would reunite in the future.
His comments came soon after the band picked up the Best Album and Best Single awards for their latest effort, the huge seller X&Y. Needless to say, the statement shocked fans, prompting England's tabloids to have a field day speculating about reasons for the split. The Daily Mirror went to the extent of saying the band was splitting up for good.
The band's record company, Parlophone, soon swung into action though, issuing a statement denying the story completely. 'Coldplay are categorically not splitting up,' the statement read. 'They are on the road until July, when their 16 month X&Y World Tour ends in Japan. They will then be having a well deserved rest before working on their fourth album.'
An alternative rock band from London, Coldplay hit the top of the charts everywhere with the haunting track, Yellow. Since the release of their album A Rush of Blood to the Head, the band has also actively supported various social and political causes.
