After a long wait, Sony Pictures has finally released a publicity pic from its much-awaited Spider-Man 3.
After fervent speculation regarding which Spider-Man villains will feature in the highly anticipated sequel, it is now officially clear that Thomas Haden Church will star as Flint Marko, also known as The Sandman.
Topher Grace (That 70's Show) has also been announced as a villain, and comic fans feel he is likely to play Venom or Electro.
Church last starred in the critically-lauded Sideways, and won an Academy Award nomination for the film.
Third in a $1.5 billion franchise, the film will see Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst reprise their roles as Spider-Man and Mary Jane Watson respectively. Sam Raimi, director of the first two mega-blockbusters, will be at the helm of 3.
Spider-Man 3, scheduled for release on May 4, 2007, is currently under pre-production.
