Paagalpan: Get rocked!Sukanya Verma Fresh. That’s what the music of Paagalpan is. Apt, considering the film introduces debutantes Karan Nath and Aarti. Director Joy Augustine once again displays his ear for music. For his earlier film, Tere Mere Sapne, he had Viju Shah turning in some chartbusters like Aankh mare and Kuch mere dil ne kaha. This time, Augustine extracts some good stuff out of the lesser-known composer Raju Singh. Paagalpan boasts of eight superlative songs. To begin with there is Kahin na kahin by Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik. An immensely likeable track full of melody. Lyricist Sameer weaves some pleasing poetry to match. Another engaging number is Dil hai deewana, where you have Udit Narayan and Alka crooning sensuously to some cool and funky beats. Follows Mera dil by Sreenivas and Chitra. At times drawing its inspiration from the A R Rahman School of music, Mera dil is a soothing, but mushy love duet. Dekhte dekhte, a song about heartbreak, breaks your chain of the earlier lovey dovey thoughts. If you like sad songs, this one might catch your fancy. However, what really attracts your attention is the foot-tapping, upbeat title song. Newcomer Raymond George (in a Remo mould) accompanied by Shraddha Pandit put their heart and soul in this lively dance number. A-ding-dang-do is pepped up with some racy strains and melodious vocals by the whole bunch comprising Udit Narayan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Harward, Javed Ali and Vicky. This one sounds fun. Jhoothe the vaade is the sad version of Kahin na kahin. The tragic interpretation makes for good hearing. The album winds up with the raunchy track, Loota. The voice behind this track sounds suspiciously like Ila Arun, but in reality, it is a husky-throated newcomer Swastika. Remember the folksy Lambi judaai by Reshma in Subhash Ghai's Hero? Loota falls into the same slot. Paagalpan is a complete album. Fresh vocals, melodious music, catchy rhythms and great use of every possible musical instrument. It's all there. It's a good investment.
