Shiv Sena says divestment is nation's selloff

"We will not allow you to sell this nation through the divestment policy," Thackeray, whose party is a key constituent of the NDA, said while addressing the Sena's annual Dussehra rally in Mumbai.

Giving example of Batra Hospitality Limited purchasing Hotel Centaur in Santa Cruz for Rs 83 crore through divestment and selling it to a third party for Rs 120 crore, Thackeray said, "Who needs the money generated by such divestment."

The Sena chief said those acquiring public sector entities via divestment should be banned from selling it for at least 10 years.

Sena leader and Union Minister for Heavy Industries, Balasaheb Vikhe Patil, has written to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and explained the party's views on divestment.
