Selling pressure keeps equities low; Nifty slides to 832.25
Equities fell marginally on selling pressure from foreign institutional investors and domestic institutions at the National Stock Exchange today. The S&P CNX Nifty declined by 1.60 points to end at 832.25 as against the previous close of 833.85. Opening at 833.55, it touched the day's high of 834 and a low of 818.95. The CNX Nifty Junior eased by 6.70 points to close at 1435.65, S&P CNX Defty shed 1.85 points to end at 681.75, S&P CNX 500 rose by 0.39 points to finish at 576.99 and CNX Midcap 200 ended at 514.81, showing a net gain of 2 points. The total turnover was Rs 11.83 billion from trading in 48.8 million shares. ITC topped the turnover list with Rs 2.68 billion followed by Satyam Computer (Rs 1.93 billion), SBI (Rs 866.5 million), Zee Telefilms (Rs 791.3 million) and Reliance (Rs 675.9 million). Others that recorded a high turnover were Pentafour, Tata Tea, Telco, Castrol, Digital, ACC, MTNL and HCL-HP. The five top gainers were Telco, HDFC Bank, Tata Tea, BSES and ACC, while prominent among those that shed value were Ranbaxy, L&T, IFCI, HPCL and Cochin Refinery. FIIs were net sellers to the tune of Rs 90.1 million at the exchange.
