'US office in Pune shows India is important'United States ambassador to India Richard F Celeste today inaugurated US's seventh foreign commercial office in India in Pune. This is the second such office in the state of Maharashtra, the first one being in Bombay. Celeste said no other country has as many as seven US offices. This shows the importance the US accords to India as a whole and Maharashtra in particular, he said. Pune is the gateway to cyberspace, is a base for automotive industry and now information technology, he remarked. Maharashtra industry secretary Yashwant Bhave said the state government will sign an Memorandum of Understanding with Carnegie Memon University, US for setting up the Indian Institute of Software Engineering in Pune. Veena Bhalegaon, who till recently was the deputy secretary of the Maratha Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, has been appointed the director of the Pune commercial office.
