Government to promote eco-tourism

Union Environment and Forest Minister Suresh Prabhu has said that the new Central policy on tourism would lay emphasis on eco-tourism in the country.

Addressing a series of public functions involving educational institutions in Uttar Kannada district of Karnataka last night, Prabhu said there was tremendous scope for growth and development of eco-tourism and nature tourism in the country.

He said conservation of nature was a positive philosophy and not a negative slogan and pointed out that conservation and development had to go hand in hand and hence his ministry and the government of India would adopt measures to take care of the natural assets of the country and the historic heritage of the nation through a public policy.
