A key Taliban commander was killed during a clash with security forces in Buner district of northwest Pakistan, officials said on Monday.

Militant commander Syed Muhammad was gunned down in the mountainous Elaum area in Buner district on Sunday, officials said.

Security personnel cordoned off Elaum after receiving a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area.

The troops then launched a search operation and killed the militant commander.

No security personnel were hurt in the operation, officials said.
