Many injured in car bomb blast near Peshawar school

November 26, 2009 10:56 IST

Several persons were injured in a car bomb blast which occurred near a private school in Charsadda area of Peshawar early on Thursday morning.

Security officials cordoned off the region and the injured were admitted to various hospitals across the city, The News reports.

Eye-witnesses said the bomb was planted in a car which was parked near the school.

The blast, which is believed to have been triggered off by a remote control device, was so powerful that it destroyed several vehicles parked nearby and damaged electric supply lines in the area.

None of the terror groups operating in the region have taken responsibility for the blast.

Sources said the blast was of lower intensity compared to the recent attacks in the provincial capital.

Over 300 people have died and dozens injured in a wave of terror attacks in Peshawar in the past one month, which is seen as retaliation against the Pakistan army's offensive against the Taliban in Swat and South Waziristan.
