A still from LostIt's a television show about alienation, self-awareness and being beached on a mostly deserted island.

Mixing mystery with metaphor, Lost has found itself a cult audience around the globe -- but its very theme might be taking it towards its final episode sooner than fans like.

Built initially as a 13-episode show, growing popularity on television and DVD has made sure the seasons keep extending. Yet, recent reports have quoted the show's producers talking about axing it, and their current hunt for an end-point.

As Lost keeps expanding its universe and mythos, it is likely building itself up for an impossible finale -- it is getting harder to conceive of an end justifying the series' growing complexity.

Lost, currently headed into Season 4, needs -- and is ready to -- to wrap things up. Maybe before season 5 kicks off. Be prepared, fans. And hey, there are always reruns.
