What you need to know about Anil Kapoor:

* Proud of middle class roots, AK visits his home in Mumbai's Tilak Nagar Chawl, where he spent his growing years, every year during the Ganesh Chathurti celebrations.

* Kapoor sang the title song of Chameli Ki Shaadi in 1986. It a less known fact that the actor is a trained semi-classical singer. He was trained under the Late Chhote Iqbal who tutored the likes of Nitin Mukesh and Laxmikant (of Laxmikant-Pyarelal).

* The actor won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in Tezaab, Beta, Virasat (Critics' Award) and Supporting Actor in Mashaal and Taal. He also won the National Award for his poignant performance in Rajkumar Santoshi's Pukar.

* When the National awards were announced, Kapoor was celebrating the birthday of his wife Sunita (March 25), with children Sonam, Rhea and Harshvardhan, younger brother Sanjay Kapoor and his wife Maheep at their farmhouse in Alibaug (in the outskirts of Mumbai).

* Anik Kapoor is not known for a fabulous physique, but for his role in Shankar's Nayak, he religiously pumped iron.
