It was with old friend Manoj Agarwal's Hadh Kar Di Aapne that Govinda ventured into distribution.

The film was originally supposed to star Mahima Chaudhry opposite Govinda, but was later replaced by Rani Mukherji due to lack of dates.

For his role as a detective in disguise, Govinda reportedly drew inspiration from Sanjeev Kumar's Naya Din Naya Raat and Eddie Murphy in The Nutty Professor.
