Punjabi producers up in arms!

Komal Nahta

About 25 Punjabi film producers are up in arms against the Punjab government for the non-payment of the promised subsidy to them.

The Punjab government pays subsidy to producers of approved Punjabi films under a state policy. While films were approved under the said policy, and consequently, produced and released, the government is simply not forthcoming with the promised subsidies.

Spearheading the battle royale is actress and Punjabi film producer Preeti Sapru.

The producers, then decided to drag the government to court. Not only that, they've also resolved to boycott all cultural programmes by the Punjab government until the payment of the subsidies.

The state government's proposal of a Punjabi film awards function has been rejected outright by the strong lobby of producers.

The plan of action includes an agitation at the residence of chief minister Prakash Singh Badal.
