'Kajol is picture perfect'

She is the woman behind the film photography of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Her job done, Ayesha Monani admits she is unemployed at the moment and desperately looking out for work.

Excerpts from an interview with Sheetal Seth on the film and the cast.

How did K3G happen?

I had worked with publicity designer Rahul Nanda for the film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Dharma Productions called me up to work on this film. The money was good -- I accepted the offer. I had never done an entire film before. Here, I was with them in all the shoots.

How was your rapport with the cast?

Jaya Bachchan is the warmest person, that I have come across from the industry. While the Bachchans do have their share of warm moments; on the sets they are completely professional and give each other a lot of space. The respect and the bond, she and Mr. Bachchan share is amazing. When Mr.Bachchan has a tough shot, Mrs. Bachchan will not try to attract any attention to her self.

I am not a huge film buff and I didn't know how huge Amitabh Bachchan was. I would chatter with him all the time. But ever since I have found out, he makes me nervous.

My all-time favourite is Kareena Kapoor. She and Hrithik Roshan are very conscious about themselves. They are very particular about their looks and their performance before the shot and not really affected by others around them.

I have the maximum pictures of Kareena. She is always acting, for herself. For a photgrapher, she is a sheer delight -- one just has to be around her and one gets all kinds of expressions and pictures.

Hrithik, on the other hand, is a clown. He would keep making funny faces at me and I would constantly warn him that I would capture him like that. And I did!

Kajol, however, does not like being photographed much. It was distressing initially. After being shot, she would just walk off. It's not that we had a verbal conflict every time we met, it's just that we had nothing to speak about. But during the shoot, Kajol was picture perfect.

But my favourite pictures are the ones that are not in the book. I am sure all these photographs will be worth a fortune one day.

Any specific scene that you treasure the most?

In Egypt, we shot a love song with Shah Rukh and Kajol. The chemistry in that scene is worth watching.

How did you go about shooting for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham?

Well, for any film, the first thing I believe is to make friends with the cameraman so that things are smooth. I made it a point to know Kiran Deohans, who has also worked for Aks.

On the sets, it is the cameraman's visual and a film photographer has to capture the best of what the cameraman captures. This is possible only when you are in good terms with him.

Though, I always shoot from a distance. Because it is very intrusive having a photographer clicking your every move. But I did it shameslessly, because eventually they are public figures

Overall, how has the experience been?

I took this offer because the money was good. I even agreed to be there during the entire shoot, which I have never done for any of my previous films. I have to admit after this experience, money has definitely become a secondary issue.
