Never say die!
Meanwhile, Amitabh, who acted opposite Nafisa Ali in Tinnu Anand's Major Saab recently, will also star opposite her daughter in his next film. At least, that's the way Tinnu Anand put it, giving us an impish sidelong glance. Then he explained: The girl in question is just 12, and is to play his daughter. If you haven't noticed he's also just told you that it's his film. We confirm later that he will be directing it. The film, he says, is about the relationship of a father and daughter and is a highly emotional movie. No, he's not in the army again, and no, it's not calledMajor Sob.
Tough opening
For the present, though, Abhishek Bachchan's doing Refugee, also starring Kareena Kapoor, Sunil Shetty and Jackie Shroff. The director? As of old, J P Dutta. Already one song has been recorded at Subhash Ghai's Audeus studio. And the high and mighty of filmdom converged there, to check what these guys were all up to. Dad Amitabh must be concerned, of course. Other than in the Kapoor khandaan, few sons have made it, give or take an odd Sunny Deol or a Sanjay Dutt. Abhishek also has competition from old friends Fardeen Khan and Hritik Roshan. And then Bobby Deol and Akshaye Khanna are nowhere over the hill yet.
A ghost story
Husainsaab was there after all, dressed in his usual white churidar-kurta, a small sleeveless off-white jacket and carrying a brush. Was his feet bare, did you ask? Sorry, didn't want to state the obvious. But what on earth was Ram Gopal Verma doing there ordering the assistants about? Eek, a ghost director??! Wasn't Husain a national award winning director for his first film, Through The Eyes Of A Painter? Hadn't he promised he'd prove his point with Gajagamini? And here he was, relying on the maker of Rangeela and Satya to pull him through... A bloody letdown, that's what it was!
Lady to watch
Well, Neha's doing well professionally too, getting offers by the dozen, at the cost of many other smaller heroines. Seems she's swept the other producers off their feet too. Quite a few starlet secretaries are losing their jobs, and not just owing to the recession in the industry. As one wag put it, "She has bagged all these projects on the merit of Kareeb. And leaving many people gareeb. Of course, the chap's exaggerating, but it seems here we have one lady to watch out for.
Bhatt's peeveLong ago, if you remember, we told you that Mahesh Bhatt was directing Ghulam. Later we also told you that Vikram Bhatt had taken over. We told you all that because one of Mukesh Bhatt's trusted lieutenant told us so. Mahesh Bhatt now says he was very upset the way hero Aamir Khan used to interfere with the direction. But, if memory serves us right, Mr Bhatt, didn't Aamir do the same thing duringHum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Dil Hain Ke Manta Nahin? And did you mind when all of them turned out to be superhits?
Son signs
Shravan has done all the work himself, they say; he's just given his sons the credit. According to them, since his partner Nadeem is out in London, keeping his distance from the Bombay police, Shravan has had trouble working alone. So he's grooming his sons to join him, they say. Now it might have been true hadn't we known that Shravan has a healthy respect for good friend and compatriot Nadeem. And, for many reasons, is reluctant to make an enemy of him. But we'll wait and watch what happens, won't we?
