Laxminarayan Bairva, the BJP candidate from Chaksu, drapes a chunri over Vasundhara Raje, who leads the party's campaign in Rajasthan.

Vasundhara Raje was to arrive by helicopter and a helipad was constructed overnight by the state public works department about two kilometres away from Chaksu, in an open area bereft of trees or greenery. But the helicopter never arrived: Vasundhara Raje, who was running behind schedule, turned up four hours late by car since her helicopter lacked night navigational systems.

Bairva stands a good chance of winning in Chaksu, which is 45 km south of Jaipur. His Congress rival confronts the incumbent legislator, contesting the election as a rebel nominee because he was denied the party ticket.
