Uncapped batsman Martin Guptill was named on Thursday in New Zealand's 12-man squad for the final two one-day internationals against West Indies.

Guptill will replace the out-of-form Jamie How, who was dismissed for a duck in New Zealand's seven-wicket victory in the third match at Westpac Stadium in Wellington on Wednesday.

All-rounder Jacob Oram was also released from the squad to recover from injury, New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said in a statement.

"Martin really impressed on the tours to Australia and India last year with the Emerging Players and New Zealand A," head of the selection panel Glenn Turner said in a statement.

"He's continued that form this summer since coming back from injury at the start of the season."

The 22-year-old Guptill recently scored 124 off 97 balls for Auckland against Northern Districts and was the highest scorer in New Zealand's one-day domestic competition last season, scoring 596 runs at an average of 59.6.

How will return to domestic cricket to "hopefully find the form we know he's capable of," Turner said.

The one-day series is tied at 1-1 after the first game was washed out.

The final two matches in the series will be played in Auckland on Jan. 10 and Napier on Jan. 13.

Squad: Daniel Vettori (captain), Neil Broom, Grant Elliott, Daniel Flynn, Mark Gillespie, Martin Guptill, Brendon McCullum, Kyle Mills, Jeetan Patel, Jesse Ryder, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor.
