Statistical highlights, India - West Indies, 2nd ODI, Cuttack
- The match was Sachin Tendulkar's 376th one-day international. He became the most capped player in the game's history, surpassing Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya's tally of 375 matches.
- Chris Gayle was captaining the West Indies for the first time, in his 154th match (although this was his 157th ODI appearance, he represented the World XI in three matches). Only Desmond Haynes had captained the West Indies for the first time after playing more matches (161) than Gayle. Jeff Dujon also led the West Indies for the first time after 153 matches.
- Sachin Tendulkar recorded his 17th duck in ODIs -- his fifth against the West Indies. Tendulkar now holds the dubious distinction of aggregating most ducks in a career for India against the West Indies. He was previously level with Arun Lal, with four ducks. Tendulkar, however, can take solace from the fact that while Arun's four ducks came in only 10 innings, it was his 376th innings.
- Tendulkar is now inching towards another dubious record. With 17 ducks, he is just behind Javagal Srinath (19) and Anil Kumble (18), who have aggregated most ducks in an ODI career for India.
- Dinesh Karthik (63 runs off 87 balls) scored his maiden ODI fifty in his eighth match. His previous highest was a paltry 17 (off 38 balls) against South Africa, at Port Elizabeth in 2006-07.
- The eighth wicket partnership of 62 runs (off just 56 balls) is India's best for this wicket against the West Indies in all matches. The pair obliterated the unbroken 60-run stand between Ravi Shastri and Madan Lal at Indore in 1983-84.
- Ajit Agarkar's 40 is the highest score by an Indian number 9 batsman against the West Indies, obliterating Harbhajan's 26 at Port-of-Spain in 2006.
- Darren Powell's 4 for 27 is the best bowling performance by any bowler on this ground. The previous best was Graham Gooch's 3-19 for England against Pakistan in 1989-90.
- The 20 extras conceded by the West Indies bowlers equalled the record of maximum wides in an innings in India-West Indies rivalry. At Port-of-Spain in 1996-97 also, the West Indies bowlers sent down an identical number of wides.
- When Zaheer Khan managed to disturb Chanderpaul's furniture, it was after bowling 261 balls and conceding 216 runs India were seeing the back of Chanderpaul in the series! During his stay at the wicket, the West Indies scored 493 runs in two one-dayers.
- Chanderpaul has now crossed 50 in four consecutive innings. The sequence started with 60 off 82 balls against Pakistan at Multan on 13-12-2006, followed by 101 off 142 balls at Karachi on 16-12-2006, 149* off 136 against India at Nagpur on 21-01-2007 and now 67 off 125 balls at Cuttack.
- Chanderpaul is now level with three other West Indian batsmen, who scored four fifty-plus scores in four innings. They are: Viv Richards (in 1979-80), Brian Lara (in 1995) and Chris Gayle (twice- in 2001-02 & in 2002). The West Indies record, however, is held by Gordon Greenidge, who has fifties in six consecutive innings (in 1979-80).
- Chanderpaul has now scored at least a fifty in the last three consecutive innings against India. His 149* at Nagpur and 67 at Cuttack were preceded by 51 at Ahmedabad in an ICC Champions Trophy game. The record of most fifties in consecutive innings against India is four fifties currently, shared by six batsmen -- Javed Miandad, Aamir Sohail, Sanath Jayasuriya, Aravinda de Silva, Chris Gayle and Shoaib Malik.
- India's total of 189 is the second lowest first innings total by any side in a 50-over game on Indian soil to win the match after Kenya's 166 against West Indies at Pune in 1995-96 World Cup. India's previous lowest such total in India was 193 against Australia at Ahmedabad in 1986-87.
- The victory was India's 300th in one-day internationals in 637th match. India became fourth team to do so after Australia (392 wins in 639 matches), Pakistan (348 in 648) and the West Indies (308 in 558).
- Dinesh Karthik won his maiden Man of the Match award.
