- Sourav Ganguly, playing his first ODI in more than 16 months, became third Indian to aggregate 1,000 runs against West Indies when his score reached 37. He became third Indian after Sachin Tendulkar (1,411) and Rahul Dravid (1,187) to reach the landmark.

- The 144-run partnership between Gautam Gambhir and Sourav Ganguly is the highest by an Indian left-handed opening pair. The previous best was 109 between Dinesh Mongia and Ganguly against Zimbabwe at Mohali in 2001-02.

- This partnership is also the highest for the first wicket at the ground. The pair obliterated the 136-run partnership between Krish Srikkanth and Sunil Gavaskar against New Zealand way back in 1987-88.

- Ganguly's 98 is his highest against West Indies, surpassing the 83 he made at Dhaka in ICC knock-out in 1998-99.

- The fifth wicket unbroken partnership of 119 runs (off just 71 balls) between MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid is India's best for this wicket against West Indies, obliterating the 105-run stand between VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid at Nagpur in 2002-03.

- India's total of 338-3 equals the highest total ever scored against West Indies. Australia had also scored 338 (for the loss of 6 wickets) at Melbourne in 2000-01. Incidentally India's previous highest against West Indies was 325-5, at Ahmedabad in 2002-03

- Four Indian batsmen -- Gambhir, Ganguly, Dhoni and Dravid -- scored fifty in the match. This provided only the fourth such instance for India. The other instances came against Australia at Delhi in 1987-88, versus Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2004-05 and versus England at Indore in 2005-06. However, this was the first such instance against the West Indies.

- Chanderpaul completed 1000 runs against India when his score reached 6. He was playing his 40th match and 36th innings against India.

- Chris Gayle completed 1,000 runs against India when his score reached 13. He was playing his 25th match and 25th innings. Gayle became sixth West Indian to do so after Desmond Haynes (1,357 runs in 36 matches), Carl Hooper (1,279 in 45), Gordon Greenidge (1,181 in 24), S. Chanderpaul (1,143 in 40) and Brian Lara (1,056 in 40).

- Chanderpaul (149*) scored his second hundred (and his highest score) against India. This is also the highest score by a West Indies against India in India (Viv Richards had also scored 149 at Jamshedpur in 1983-84).

- Chanderpaul's innings is also the highest by a West Indies player batting second. The previous best was unbeaten 146 by Brian Lara against New Zealand at Port-of-Spain in 1995-96.It is also the fourth highest by a batsman for a losing side.

Tendulkar's wicket of Brian Lara was his 20th wicket, which came by way of STUMPING. Among Indians, now only Anil Kumble (25) and Ravi Shastri (22) have claimed more wickets than Tendulkar in this fashion.

- The West Indies' total of 324-8 is the third highest score for a side batting second and losing the game after Pakistan's 344-8 against India at Karachi in 2003-04 and Sri Lanka's 329 against the West Indies at Sharjah in 1995-96.

- As many as 662 runs were scored in the match for the loss of 11 wickets, which makes it the highest scoring game on the Indian soil. The previous record of highest aggregate in a match was of 655 runs (for the loss of 19 wickets) in the New Zealand-India match at Rajkot in 1999-00.

- The win ended India's streak of six consecutive defeats.
