Statistical highlights

3rd Test, Day 1 at Bridgetown, Barbados

** Wasim Jaffer was making a comeback after missing 20 matches since his last appearance in March 2000 against South Africa at Bangalore.

** Merv Dillon's wicket of Shiv Sunder Das off the first ball of the match, makes him the fourth West Indian bowler to achieve this unique feat in a Test match. The others to do so are: Andy Roberts, Malcolm Marshall and Curtly Ambrose. Dillon also emulates former Indian pace bowler Syed Abid Ali by becoming the only second bowler to dismiss a batsman 'bowled' off the first ball of a Test match. Abid Ali had also 'bowled' former West Indian opener Roy Fredericks at Port of Spain in 1971.

** Meanwhile Das became the fourth Indian batsmen who have had the misfortune of being a first-ball victim in a Test match. The other Indians being: Sunil Gavaskar, Sudhir Naik and WV Raman. Gavaskar, in fact, has been dismissed on three occasions - the most by any batsman in Test cricket history.

** Incidentally Das became the 19th batsman for the 21st time to be dismissed off the first ball of a Test match, while Dillon became the 18th bowler to claim a wicket off the first ball of a match.

** Playing in his 94th Test match and 150th innings, Tendulkar recorded his ninth duck of his career. For the first time in his Test career he was dismissed for a duck on two successive innings.

** Pedro Collins became the only second left-arm bowler after South African Brett Schultz (in 1992-93) to dismiss Tendulkar for a duck.

** Rahul Dravid has now been involved in a run-out on 14 occasions in 99 innings. He has been self run-out on five occasions and has been involved in his partners run out on 9 occasions. He now equals the dubious Indian record of being involved in most run-outs. Sunil Gavaskar (5 self + 9 partner's) and Mohammad Azharuddin (7+7) are the other Indians to be involved in maximum run-outs in Tests. Incidentally, this was the fourth time Dravid has been run-out in his career, with Ganguly as his partner.

** Playing in his third Test match Adam Sanford (3-20) recorded his best bowling figures of his career by bettering his previous best of 3-111 in the second Test match at Port of Spain last month.

** India's total of 102 was its 23rd lowest in Test cricket. It was the team's 17th lowest in an away Test match. India's total was its lowest since its 83 against New Zealand at Mohali in October 1999 and its lowest in an away Test match since the 81 at this same venue in March 1997.
