2nd ODI highlights from Mohali

** Though the partnership of 109 runs between Dinesh Mongia and Sourav Ganguly was the not the best for the first wicket at this venue, it was by far India's best for this wicket. The previous best was the 54 between Navjot Singh Sidhu and Sachin Tendulkar against Australia on 3-11-1996. The best still remains as the 155 between New Zealanders Nathan Astle and Bryan Young against Pakistan on 9-5-1997.

** Heath Streak by conceding 72 runs in his 10 overs just failed to concede the maximum by a Zimbabwe bowler in a match against India. Former teammate and leg-spinner Paul Strang had conceded 73 runs in his 10 overs at Colombo (SSC) on 1-9-1996.

** India's total of 319-6 was its fifth highest in a one-dayer and its second highest at home after the 376-2 against New Zealand at Hyderabad on 8-11-1999. The only other total exceeding India's effort against Zimbabwe was the 363-3 by South Africa at Bulawayo on 23-9-2001.

** The total was India's best against Zimbabwe eclipsing the previous best of 306-5 at Ahmedabad on 5-12-2000.

** The 134 run partnership between Alistair Campbell and Travis Friend was the best for Zimbabwe for the second wicket against India bettering the previous best of 125 between Campbell and Murray Goodwin at Bulwayo on 27-9-1998. Incidentally, the Campbell-Friend partnership was Zimbabwe's second best for second wicket in one-dayers. The pair had just failed to surpass the Zimbabwean best against all countries which was the 150 between Grant Flower and Gavin Rennie against Bangladesh at Nairobi (Gym) on 19-10-1997.

** The above partnership was the best for the second wicket at this venue obliterating the 88 runs between the Indian pair of Ajay Jadeja and Vinod Kambli against South Africa on 22-11-1993.

** Dinesh Mongia who has never had a bowl in his previous 11 matches, finished with figures of 3-31 in six overs - the best by an Indian spinner at this venue. Among slow bowlers only Australian Shane Warne (4-36 v West Indies on 14-3-1996) has better figures.

** Mongia's all-round performance (45 and 3-31) was the third best by an Indian against Zimbabwe after the 71 not out & 5-34 by Ganguly at Kanpur on 11-12-2000 and the 67 not out & 3-26 by Ajit Agarkar at Rajkot on 14-12-2000.

** The match aggregate of 574 runs was the highest between the two countries obliterating the previous highest of 570 runs at Cuttack on 9-4-1998.

** Playing in his 188th match, Ganguly claimed his 26th man of the match award of his career. His last award before this one came against South Africa at East London on 19-10-2001, in a losing effort.
