Laxman to test drive his recovery

Indian batting stalwart V V S Laxman will have the
first of his fitness tests on Wednesday to see if he can play for a local grade
Australian team.
If he makes it, Laxman is likely to play for the Balmain-University of
Technology in Sydney, where he has been recovering after a knee injury
operation.
The talented Hyderabad right-hander had suffered a knee injury while playing
in Sri Lanka in July and had arthroscopy in Sydney about five weeks ago for
a right knee ligament tear.
His decision to opt out of India's one-day international match series in
South Africa was made public only on Monday.
The president of the Balmain side, Harry Harinath, expressed optimism
that the star Indian batsman would be fit to play against Hawkesbury and Mosman
as he has undergone intense physiotherapy.
Laxman may not be playing in the limited-overs series, starting from
September 24, but he is most likely to be available for the three-Test series against South Africa, starting from November 3.
