Softpro to open shop in Singapore

The company is engaged in software solutions based on object-oriented technologies.

Capricorn Systems President Chand Akkineni said Softpro is planning to capitalise on the Singapore industry's goal of becoming the front-runner in the Southeast Asian region in information technology by 2000. "We are already working with a Singapore-based consultant. We visited Singapore in April and are again planning to visit the country soon to offer our technology to the companies there. We feel it is the right time to work with them," he said.

Stating that Singapore plans to invest $3 billion in the next three years to become number one in Southeast Asia, he explained his company plans to tap a certain percentage of the figure.

"It has been planned in Singapore that every house should have at least one ISDN line. And the corporate houses and the government bodies are coming up with plans and technologies to ensure that Singapore's dream comes true," he said, and added that his company is going to offer client/server technologies to the Singapore clients.

Softpro, set up mainly to supply manpower and technical resources to its parent company, has been supplying capabilities to Capricorn projects. The company recently opened its training division to generate skilled manpower. It has supplied professionals to Tata-IBM, Maruti Udyog, Mahindra and British Telecom so far.

Planning to recruit around 100 software engineers, the company is aspiring for ISO 9001 certificate by January-February next. On the projects taken up by Softpro last year, Chand said his subsidiary completed half-a-million dollar taxation project for the Arthur Anderson group worldwide on VC++.

"The project is to make 20 of Anderson's corporate clients compliant to international tax system," Akkineni said.

He added that Softpro also did an AS/400 development and maintenance project for US-based company on the latter's Innovative Transportation System for the trucking industry.
