Dabur India all set to put Ayurveda on CD-ROM

Dabur India is using a new-generation product to promote an ancient science. The company, in collaboration with Tata Interactive Services, is brining out a CD-ROM later this year to promote Ayurveda.

The CD-ROM will be marketed worldwide. Gaurav Burman, senior manager, Dabur, said the CD-ROM will be used to disseminate information and crate awareness about the advantages of Ayurveda. "We are creating an encyclopaedia on the subject."

He agreed that there already are a few other CD-ROMs on the issue but claimed that theirs would be the first of its kind in scale and scope. In the West, CD-ROMs on alternate medicine are available but none have been made exclusively on Ayurveda, he claimed.

It will trace the origins and history of Ayurveda and describe its relevance and therapeutic values. "In recent years, misinformation has been spread on the subject and we will dispel these rumours. Through the CD, we will promote Ayurveda as a natural no-side-effect system of treating all ailments. There is a huge latent demand for the Ayurvedic system, waiting to be tapped," said Burman.

The CD-ROM will use animations and graphics. The idea is to present the subject in a modern, concise manner, he said. Dabur is a leading player in the Ayurveda market and around 70 per cent of its Rs 7 billion turnover comes from its Ayurvedic products, which include chyavanprash, pudhinhara and amla hair oil.

In the domestic market the sale of its Ayurveda products is growing by 20 per cent annually and in the export market it is faster although on a low base. Burman claimed that the CD-ROM would not be used to advertise or promote Dabur.
