VSNL to survey customers on its service quality

The Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited, India's sole commercial Internet access provider, has hired Bombay-based market research firm, Indica Research, to conduct a broad-based survey among its customers.

VSNL, which is owned by the government has come under flak for its service and a new policy to let companies from the private sector step in is on the anvil.

The survey is being conducted in the four metros of Bombay, Madras, Calcutta and Delhi. And in Bangalore, Pune and Ahmedabad.

The research agency is to survey customers about various VSNL services including e-mail, Internet and Inmarsat. It is posing questions regarding aspects of the company's services such as marketing, support, billing etc.

The survey will ask VSNL's customers whether they would move away from the company to private service providers in the future. While VSNL already has competition in the e-mail segment, it is expected to have competition in the Internet services segment once licences are issued.
