SDRC launches I-DEAS Master Series 5

Structural Dynamics Research Corporation has announced the immediate availability of the latest release of its CAD/CAM/CAE software, I-DEAS Master Series 5.

SDRC will also be releasing its Artisan Series, a basic design modelling software, in another couple of months in India.

The product features customer-driven performance improvements in several areas and includes many technology enhancements for designing, analysing, and manufacturing large complex parts and assemblies in a collaborative environment, the company claims.

The I-DEAS Master Series 5 also premieres a new technology called VGX (extended variational geometry). VGX is a CAD/CAM/CAE foundation technology that is expected to provide unprecedented ease of use and an intuitive way of designing products in 3-D.

I-DEAS Master Series 5 contains over 90 integrated software modules which address the primary areas of mechanical product development.

In CAD, the Master Series 5 contains enhanced capabilities in complex part design, advanced surfacing, associative tool design and collaborative design in the context of large assemblies. In the CAE area, the product offers strong support for product simulation and mechanical testing through the addition of new capabilities for FE modelling, sound quality engineering and durability analysis.

Recent acquisition of CAMAX by SDRC allowed them to integrate CAM and with the I-DEAS Generative Machining technologies. The Metaphase Series 2, a PDM (product data management) product, also directly interfaces with I-DEAS Master Series 5.

"VGX is a first-of-its-kind technology,'' said William A Carrelli, SDRC's vice-president of field marketing. It provides an intuitive interaction technology for designing and modifying 3-D parts, allowing customers to design parts with robust geometry and full design intent.

VGX has been designed to optimise the best features of the two modelling paradigm currently in the market - direct geometry manipulation and history-based modelling. This will help the customer to dynamically capture and seamlessly integrate design, manufacturing and simulation intent within a single master model.
