NIIT to air computer education on TV

A unique computer literacy programme will be launched through Doordarshan to mark the 50th anniversary of the country's Independence.

Dr Sugata Mitra, a celebrity in computer education and head of the research and development wing of NIIT, the information technology training corporation, said the programme conceptualised by him would address learning needs of diverse audiences through a unique graded learning system.

Several years of research has gone into the programme, called NIIT Boot It. He said the 24-episode programme would begin on DD National channel from July 19.

A number of pedagogical methods derived from personally teaching computer subjects for a number of years would be used in the programme.

A noted computer scientist and a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, Dr Mitra has speareheaded NIIT's pioneering work in video-aided instruction, instructional methodology as also setting up the first online learning facility in the Internet Netvarsity and Learning Through Exploration, Discovery and Adventure (LEAD) for children.
