Aspect to focus on CSM in India

Aspect Development India Private Limited is focusing on the niche segment of providing solutions for component supply management.

The company is the Indian arm of the US-based Aspect Development Inc and is positioning CSM as a strategic enterprise-wide solution for improving business processes in design and procurement.

CSM, or component and supplier management, is a relatively new concept in enterprise resource planning. Designers need easy access to information on the logistics of component source and pricing before they design a product.

According to Vijay Sampath, sales director, Aspect India, in nearly every manufacturing sector products consist of electrical and mechanical components, representing some 70 per cent of product cost.

To achieve a reduction in time to market, designers have to select hundreds of components in just a few weeks of a product design cycle. Similarly, procurement specialists buy these components from several suppliers without the time or information to buy from a consolidated source at a lower price.

Aspect's CSM solution seeks "to bridge this gap between design and procurement by providing a common repository for all technical and business information about components suppliers, designs and processes", he said.

This information includes parts, sub-systems, software modules and CAD libraries. The solutions are provided with an object-oriented software architecture on an RDBMS engine.

Aspect maintains and upgrades a database of over two million standard components from 700 leading suppliers worldwide.
