SAP dedicates R/3 software to Bangalore IIM

Les Heyman, president and CEO, SAP, South Asia-Pacific, has told the press that "This initiative will help develop a resource base of world-class professionals in the country who can understand the benefits of an integrated enterprise and help implement ERP solutions for their corporation."

As part of this dedication, SAP India will license a copy of the full suite of R/3 software, training material and case studies to IIM, Bangalore, free of charge.

According to Heyman "This licence has been donated by SAP to IIM, Bangalore, as part of the worldwide Institute of Higher Learning Programme. The Institute will incorporate R/3 in its courseware in functional areas like finance and control, production planning and information systems."

SAP will also train faculty at IIM, Bangalore, to facilitate the integration of SAP R/3 in the post-graduate programme courseware. The hardware for running the software has been donated by Compaq.

The five-week SAP Partner Academy being held in Bangalore is the third of its kind in Asia and the participants are SAP implementation partners in India and Australia.

The faculty comprises SAP consultants from Europe and South-East Asia and the Academy is being sponsored by Digital Equipment India Limited.

SAP India has around 40 customers in the country and had a growth rate of 160 per cent in 1996 and expects to maintain a 150 per cent growth for 1997.
