NSE's VSAT systems play truant

Over 500 members of the National Stock Exchanges from various locations had trouble logging into the bourse's systems yesterday.

The NSE has been facing trouble with its VSAT systems because of a 'drift' in the INSAT 2A satellite's course.

The trouble, which has been cropping up for the last 10 days is now being discussed between the NSE and the government's Department of Telecommunication.

The problem has compelled the country's largest exchange to explore the possibility of changing its schedule for normal and auction trading segments. This is because members usually complain of connectivity trouble between afternoon and late evening.

However, yesterday's trouble persisted even after the bourse began half an hour early and closed another half an hour late.

Nevertheless, the NSE is exploring the possibility of rescheduling trading for some time. It is also attempting to reduce the extent of the problem by carrying out certain adjustments to the affected VSATs as suggested by DoT.
