West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar on Wednesday claimed that the state would soon get a new governor who would follow the footsteps of former Raj Bhavan occupant Jagdeep Dhankhar, who had frequent run-ins with the TMC government.

Prior to his election as the vice president of India, Dhankhar was the governor of West Bengal for nearly three years and, on many occasions, had engaged in tussles with the Mamata Banerjee government over the law and order situation and other issues in the state.

La Ganesan, who took oath as the new governor of West Bengal in July this year, shares a cordial relationship with the state government.

Ganesan, also the governor of Manipur, has been given the additional charge of West Bengal.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee travelled to Tamil Nadu earlier this month to attend a family function at the invitation of La Ganesan.

"We expect that very soon, West Bengal will have a new governor. And we believe that he would follow former governor Jagdeep Dhankhar's footsteps," Majumdar told a news channel.

According to West Bengal BJP sources, the state unit is not happy with the functioning of the Raj Bhavan, especially during the Akhil Giri episode when despite seeking the governor's appointment for three days, the BJP legislative party did not get any appointment as he was not in town.

Senior BJP leader and MP Saumitra Khan recently said that Dhankhar was "very vocal" on various issues, and the party misses him.
