Mumbai Police commissioner Hemant Nagrale, who said the force cannot be present at the spot of every crime, today said he was not wrong and was simply presenting the facts.

The Mumbai Police chief was asked how could the crime take place when the force is has increased patrolling during the festival season in the city. "The police reached the spot within 10 minutes. It can't be present at every crime location. They will reach only after getting the information. Police did their best," he had said.

The incident refers to the rape and murder of a 32-year-old woman in Sakinaka. She was raped and assaulted with an iron rod and died while undergoing treatment at a hospital early on Saturday.

Chandramukhi Devi of the National Commission of Women had said the statement was extremely unfortunate.

Nagrale said at a press conference in Mumbai today that the NCW member, Chandramukhi Deve had in fact agreed with his statement on police presence.

"People have misquoted me. I had said police cannot be present at every spot, but police can reach the spot, and we reached within 10 minutes. I am maintaining my statement and it is a factual statement," Nagrale said.
