Mumbai reports 608 new COVID-19 cases, 18 deaths

Mumbai reported 608 new coronavirus infections and 18 fresh fatalities on Monday, while 714 patients recovered from the disease, the city civic body said.
  
With this, the tally of COVID-19 cases jumped to 7,20,964, while the death toll increased to 15,414, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's updated data.

Mumbai has witnessed a decrease in new cases but a rise in fatalities as compared to Sunday, when the city had registered 746 cases and 13 deaths.

Presently, Mumbai has 8,453 active COVID-19 cases, the BMC said.

The BMC said with 714 patients getting discharged from hospitals during the day, the cumulative number of recovered cases rose to 6,94,796.

According to the civic body, so far 70,72,953 COVID-19 tests have been conducted in the city, including 28,295 tests in the last 24 hours.

Mumbai has a COVID-19 recovery rate of 96 per cent, while the average growth rate of cases between June 21 and June 27 was 0.9 per cent, it said.

The case doubling rate in the metropolis was  728 days, as per the data.

Mumbai has 12 active containment zones in slums and 'chawls' (old row tenements) and 82 sealed buildings (where a certain number of residents have tested coronavirus positive), the BMC said. 

The financial capital of the county had reported the highest-ever 11,163 COVID-19 cases on April 4, while the most deaths in a day during the second wave -- at  90 -- were registered on  May 1. -- PTI
