'Greatest failure': Harris on Trump's handling of Covid

Senator Kamala Harris attacks the Trump administration's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, calling it the greatest failure in the history of the US government.

"The American people have witnessed what is the greatest failure of any presidential administration in the history of our country," Harris said at the outset of the debate before attacking the Trump administration for obscuring the facts around the virus.

"They knew and they covered it up. They minimised the seriousness of it. The president said 'you're on one side of the ledger if you wear a mask, you're on the other side if you don't;" Harris said.

"They still don't have a plan, well Joe Biden does," she added.

That plan is focused on contact tracing and vaccines.

She says the Trump administration has "forfeited" the right to re-election because of their response to COVID-19.
