This elephant family would have met with certain death had it not been for the alertness of loco pilot S Sharma of 15768 Dn Alipur Duar-Siliguri Intercity Express.

At 6:15 am, Sharma spotted this herd of wild elephants crossing the tracks and he stopped the train by applying the emergency brake.

Alipur Duar in north Bengal is an elephant migration corridor and many places the railway tracks passes through the buffer zones of forests in the Dooars.

The picture was tweeted by the official handle of the Alipur Duar division of the North East Frontier railway and was marked to Railway minister Piyush Goyal. Wild animals have routinely been killed while crossing the tracks in the Dooars.
