Hearing in the matter of the Karnataka rebel MLAs: Rebel MLAs say Speaker questioned their move to approach the Supreme Court and said "go to hell" to them in front of the media.

Senior counsel Mukul Rohatgi is appearing for the 10 rebel MLAs from Karnataka and Abhishek Manu Singhvi is representing the Karnataka Speaker. Dr Rajeev Dhavan is  arguing for Karnataka CM.

The rebel MLAs tell the SC that the Speaker has no immunity with regard to acceptance of resignations.

CJI Ranjan Gogoi asks Speaker's counsel, AM Singhvi, "Does the Speaker have the power to challenge the SC order?"

Singhvi refers to provisions and says he holds a Constitutional post.  "I am constitutionally obligated to decide on plea for disqualification of MLAs also.

Dr Rajeev Dhavan, arguing for Karnataka CM, objects to the submissions of the rebel MLAs that the speaker has acted in a mala-fide manner.

Rohatgi submits to the Supreme Court that the Speaker is answerable to this court, except under certain circumstances. He may not respond under certain sections and provisions, he is entitled exemption.

Singhvi argues that these MLAs' intention in giving resignation is something different, and it is to avoid disqualification.

Dr Rajeev Dhavan, arguing for Karnataka CM, objects to the submissions of the rebel MLAs that the speaker has acted in a mala-fide manner.

"MLAs in a plea have levelled corruption allegations and order was passed without hearing me. Plea of MLAs should not have been entertained," says CM to SC.
