The Supreme Court refused to stay amendment to SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, passed by the Parliament to override its verdict on automatic arrests and anticipatory bail.

The Supreme Court said that the petitions against the amendment and review pleas against the March 20 judgment should be heard together.

"No interim order can be passed in these matters," the top court said.

In March 2018, the top court had diluted the provisions of the stringent SC/ST Act against government servants and held that there shall be no immediate arrest on any complaint filed under the law.

However, the Parliament negated it by passing the amendments in August.
