BJP candidate from Pilibhit parliamentary constituency, Varun Gandhi visits a polling booth in Pilibhit and clicks selfies with supporters.

Varun Gandhi on Sunday sought Muslims votes during a public meeting in his parliamentary constituency, saying that he would feel good if the people of the community vote for him.

Addressing a public gathering in Pilibhit, he said, "Bas mein ek cheez Muslim bhai ko bolna chahta hun ki agar aapne mujhe vote diya toh mujhe bahut accha lagega, agar aapne mujhe vote nahi diya, koi baat nahi, tab bhi mujh se kaam le le na, koi dikat ki baat nahi. (I just want to say one thing to our Muslim brothers that if they vote for me, I will feel very good. It won't be a problem even If you don't vote for me. Then also you can get your work done by me, there will be no problem.)'

This is the in direct contrast to what his mother and union minister Maneka Gandhi had said in Sultanpur (Varun Gandhi's former constituency) when she told Muslims that if they don't vote for her and if they come to her for work, she would have to consider whether she should help them. "We are not Mahatma Gandhi's children to keep giving without getting anything in return," she said.
