Entry tickets for visiting the World Heritage monument, Taj Mahal, will be valid only for three hours from April 1 and if tourists exceed the time limit, they would have to pay an extra fee that will be equivalent to the cost of a ticket.

At present, a ticket for an Indian national costs Rs 40 and for a foreign tourist costs Rs 1000 and they both will be valid for a three-hour time slot.

Superintendent archaeologist of ASI (agra circle) Bhuvan Vikram Singh said that if tourists exceed the time limit of thee hours, they will be charged an extra amount equivalent to another new ticket. This extra charge would have to be paid at the exit gate.

He said the time slots would be enforced and if a tourist doesn't arrive at their slotted time, she or he will not be allowed entry and will have to buy a new ticket to see the Taj. He also clarified that three hours will not overlap with the closing time, which means that the timings of the monument will continue as per existing schedule.
